Spots on Your Dishes

It is a common problem to get spots on your dishes. First, I recommend using Cascade Complete granular detergent and always refill your Jet Dry dispenser. Second, if you have done that and it didn’t take care of the problem, go to a local pool store or hardware store and pick up Softcheck water quality test strips for total hardness – use the directions on the case to check your water hardness. If your water is between 7 and 25 grains per gallon purchase a bag of Calgon and add 1/8 teaspoon to the main wash cup with your soap every load. Then you must keep rechecking your water with your test strips approximately every 2 weeks; if it goes down to 0-3 grains per gallon stop using the Calgon. Also, it is always a good idea to run the faucet to warm the water at the sink before starting the dishwasher, especially if the water heater is on the other side of the house – right before you start the dishwasher, run a steady stream of hot water into the sink.
