Cleaning Your Dryer Vent

Cleaning your dryer vent is something we have all heard a lot about. Almost all appliance companies talk about it, the news has done stories on it and this has even been featured on Oprah! It is not only important to clean the lint screen, but also to move the dryer out and vacuum behind the dryer as part of your regular housekeeping. When you are behind the dryer, make sure the dryer vent duct hose is made from aluminum. If you have an old-fashioned plastic dryer vent, be sure to replace it immediately to reduce your risk of fire and it is no longer legal to have a plastic vent – the aluminum vent is available at any local hardware store. Next while the vent is removed, use a dryer brush system and run it through the vent up to the roof and most importantly making sure the roof vent is clean for good airflow. Some vents go straight out the wall which makes cleaning much easier. Make sure to re-hookup the vent before sliding the dryer back into place. If you have any problems or questions consult your local appliance specialist.
